White Screen of Death (WSOD)

• Cause: Plugin/theme conflicts, exhausted memory, or PHP errors.

• Fix:

  • Increase WP_MEMORY_LIMIT in wp-config.php.

  • Disable all plugins via FTP or phpMyAdmin and reactivate one by one.

  • Switch to a default theme (e.g., Twenty Twenty-Four) to test.

Error Establishing Database Connection

• Cause: Wrong database credentials in wp-config.php or a crashed database.

• Fix:

  • Verify DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, and DB_HOST in wp-config.php.

  • Repair database: Add

     

    define('WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true);

    then visit yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/maint/repair.php.

500 Internal Server Error

• Cause: Corrupt .htaccess, PHP memory limits, or plugin conflicts.

• Fix:

  • Rename .htaccess and refresh (WordPress will generate a new one).

  • Increase PHP memory.

  • Deactivate plugins.

404 Error on Posts

• Cause: Broken permalinks.

• Fix:

  • Go to Settings → Permalinks, and simply click Save Changes to refresh.

Stuck in Maintenance Mode

• Cause: Update interrupted.

• Fix:

  • Delete .maintenance file from the root directory.

Login Redirect Loop

• Cause: Wrong site URL or cookies issue.

• Fix:

  • Clear cookies.

  • Check wp_options table for siteurl and home values.

Allowed Memory Size Exhausted

• Cause: PHP memory limit reached.

• Fix:

  • Add this to wp-config.php:

     

    define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

Connection Timed Out

• Cause: Shared hosting resource limits, heavy plugins/themes.

• Fix:

  • Disable heavy plugins.

  • Increase PHP limits in php.ini.

  • Upgrade hosting if needed.
